On Saturday 12th of June 2010 the Trust held a fund-raising activity at Waitrose in Southsea. Our wonderful band of volunteers put on the new Trust t-shirts (still orange but with a funky new design) to help customers pack their shopping in return for donations. We were there from about 10:00 - 16:00 and had lots of helpers; each packing for a few hours before being relieved by someone new.
We have done this fund-raiser at Waitrose several times and always receive a very warm response. The customers are keen to learn about the Trust and are very generous with their donations.
The shop looked great; there was a sea of orange shirts with a volunteer at the end of every checkout. A representative from the Trust was stood by the main entrance/exit with a big collection bucket and there was always someone going past and putting in their donation!
The day was rather enjoyable as the customers were so pleasant and we are pleased to say that just under £1000 was raised for the Trust.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers for giving up their time and helping us reach this impressive total. We would like to thank the management at Waitrose for allowing us to collect and the checkout staff who were very welcoming. A huge thank you also to the customers for being so supportive.
As well as raising a good sum of money we also raised awareness of the Trust to a whole new audience by handing out information leaflets. It was a great day all round so thank you once again to all those involved.
